Technical: Can you put scent into a commercial air conditioning system?
Yes, if you use the right unit and connect it in the right place.
Short answer
Yes. A purpose-built HVAC scent diffuser connects to the supply air of a commercial air conditioning system or air handling unit and releases fragrance as a dry vapour, so it travels through the ducts to every area that system serves. It should never be done by pouring oil into the unit. Scenteq Airscent covers up to 1,000 m², costs £799 outright or £89/month ex VAT, and is fitted by your HVAC contractor after a site assessment.
How it works
The diffuser sits beside the air handling unit or ductwork and feeds a fine vapour into the supply air. The air conditioning does the rest, carrying scent evenly to each room.
What your system needs
Your system needs reliable supply airflow during the hours you want scent, and accessible ducting or plant near the connection point. Split units that only recirculate air in one room are better served by a standalone diffuser such as Scenteq Ultra.
- Ducted HVAC or an air handling unit
- Power and access near the connection point
- Fan running during scenting hours
What not to do
Don't add oils, reed sticks or aerosols to filters or vents. They can damage components, and the scent won't spread evenly.
